Wilderness rider improver courses

Wilderness rider MTB skills course

These courses are designed to take your existing trail riding skills and add to them to give you all the tools you need to get out on your own adventures, off the beaten track. These courses may include elements of technical skills, navigation, kit selection and packing, route planning and route finding as well as negotiating different surfaces. Additionally we are one of the few qualified providers of winter riding (snow and ice) and night riding courses and have a wealth of experience to share about riding on sand, snow, bog, gravel and all the other surfaces you may encounter ‘off piste’.

Half day one to one £110 dates on request
Full day one to one £175 dates on request
Full day group £65pp – book here

Who is this course for?
Anyone who rides Trail Centre type trails and wants to learn the skills needed to go beyond the trail centre.

What will we learn?
This course is designed to give you the skills you need to ride beyond the waymarked trail. Each course is tailored to the riders who are on it, but every Wilderness Rider course will include some elements of:
Trailside repairs
Natural trail features
Route finding
Route planning
First aid basics
What to pack

What do we need to bring?
A MTB bike that is in good working order and safe to use, helmet, suitable clothing for the time of year / weather forecast (inc a waterproof jacket), some change for the car park, a packed lunch and a willingness to learn.

How fit do I need to be?
This is a skills development course, not a big mountain guided ride, so if you are fit enough to ride any UK Blue graded trail centre trail, you’re fit enough to come on this course and take your riding to the next level.

Why don’t you have a list of the skills we’ll learn?
We tailor every single course to the riders on it, and we’ll teach / develop the skills that you need. Instead of setting a rigid and prescriptive format to the day, we’ll work with you to develop existing skills and teach you the new ones you need to be able to plan and ride your own routes away from the waymarked trails at a trail centre. If you want to learn a specific skill / set of skills, you’re probably better off booking a one to one skills day, or looking at our ‘Jumps & Drops’ courses.
